“I wonder as I wander out under the sky…”
– A Christmas carol by John Jacob Niles
I recently discovered store called C. Wonder while wandering under the mall skylight. While the Christmas song refers to the birth of Christ but I’m using it today to discuss the birth of a new store. The decor is bright, fun and funky; salespeople ring up your purchases throughout the store on iPhones. (I wish more stores would adopt this concept.) The clothes are appear are American sportswear mixed with a bit of English country. As I took it all in I began to wonder “where have I heard that before?” And then it hit me; this is the description given by Tory Burch about her own line; this is the new brand she and her
husband ex-husband are in dispute over. However as I wandered, I wondered; what’s all the hubbub? While the two brands seem rooted and grounded in the same basic concept, they are completely different lines; at vastly different price points. Can’t we all just get along?
In wanting Chris and Tory Burch to reconcile their differences I thought, with what fashion classic or trend do I need to reconcile. Corduroy and plaid first come to mind however I’m not yet ready for friendship with corduroy. The sound of the fabric rubbing together throughout my childhood still rings loudly in my head. I shudder at the thought. Plaid I have relegated to pajamas; only seen indoors or under the cover of darkness. Perhaps it is time for me to wear it again in the light of day. In search of plaid healing I put together two looks, one from each brand, that I absolutely love. First, C. Wonder.
Now Tory Burch…
So which fashion classic or trend do you need to reconcile with?
