“Clothes communicate so much”
– Nina Garcia, Marie Claire Fashion Director and Project Runway Judge
Make a statement. It is something we all do on a daily basis. At times we do it purposefully through our words or actions; sometimes we make a statement unconsciously through our body language or gestures. I think we are all pretty familiar with these methods of making a statement. One essential method we often overlook is our attire. Our attire expresses our individuality, creativity, attention to detail, sophistication, values, character or attitudes. Fashion is a powerful tool that can have both positive and negative effects. I have a friend who tells stories about being invited to lunches with the senior executives at her company simply because she “looked the part”. After the invitation it was up to her to demonstrate that she belonged because of her knowledge and expertise, her attire was merely a key that opened the door. Think about your objectives in life and ask yourself “what statement do I make with my attire?” Is the statement you’re currently making an appropriate one?
