So I’ve been on a bit of a summer hiatus. I have heard your
complaints desire for more S&S fashion commentary and I’m back. Anywho it is August 19th and OMG the official start of fall is just under a month away! While I love the warm summer weather fall is one of my favorite seasons for fashion. Between sexy boots, cozy sweaters and fab coats the possibilities are endless! (Breathe………ok I’m calm. Back to business.) So let’s take a look at what to expect for Fall 2013.
Fresh fall colors. Let’s start with this season’s color palette. It is pretty awesome and offers a fresh take on dressing for fall. First off, emerald continues remains a hot color. I happen to love this color since it is my birthstone and it looks great on pretty much every skin tone. The additional colors that round out the fall 2013 palette “allow for..versatility and experimentation” according to Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute. Step outside your comfort zone this year with a completely different look.
Ultracool coats. Fall coats this year are so eye-catching, you may find yourself turning down the thermostat so you can wear them inside. Alright, you might not go that far. However with the new bold furs, colors, prints and textures you may find yourself organizing your own coat drive to make room for new ones. The silhouettes are feminine but less girly and flirty than last year. The words edgy and sophisticated come to mind as I peruse these statement making collections.
Toned down prints. Floral and kaleidoscope prints are out and classic is in. Think houndstooth and menswear inspired prints and fabrics . These classics are great for the office, act as a neutral and go with just about anything. Have fun mixing them up with the new fall colors.
Leather, leather and more leather. Leather is everywhere this fall from pants to skirts, leggings and t-shirts, jackets and peplums; you name it and you can pretty much find it made with leather (except for undies of course). While traditional black is still hot, so are colors like Samba red, Mykonos blue as well as the other colors from this season’s color palette.
Leopard is here to stay. Yay! Anyone who knows me is aware that I love a good animal print. So I was happy to see that this trend not only continues for fall but is expanding into more colors and print sizes. Try experimenting this season with a red or pink leopard, green tiger or even a purple snake. While you won’t find these colorful skins in the wild, these funky, modern prints will definitely separate you from the herd.
Winter white is white-hot. This simple and easy to wear trend is super sophisticated. It not only works for the office but a night out on the town. Keep the look fresh and clean with neutral accessories but feel free to mix up various shades of stark white, ivory and cream.
